Instructions

• Choke

If the engine has not been running for some time (especially when the weather is chilly), you may need to use the choke. Always first try to get the engine going a few times without using the choke. When using the choke, pull the lever out half way, push down the gas pedal, and start the engine. Rev the engine a few times. The engine should now be running. Push back the choke lever after a few hundred meters (otherwise the engine may get flooded).

• Opening and closing the roof

The roof is opened by first releasing the two clips at the front-end of the roof on the inside of the car (located at the top-left and top-right of the front window). Fold back the roof (still attached to the rod ), and then remove the roof from the rod by pulling the roof off the rod (it is attached to the rod by two pins).

Neatly roll back the roof (when rolling the roof back, you will also have to release the roof from the two side clips that keep the roof attached to the body of the car). Finally, secure the rolled back roof by using the two straps that are attached to the inside of the car at the back end. Fold back the rod to the front and secure it with the two clips at the front end on top of the front window.

• Handbrake

When parking, it is better for the duck not to use the handbrake. Just put the car in first gear when parking and using the hand brake is not necessary. If using the hand brake is necessary: The handbrake sits below the steering wheel on the right. To use it, pull the handle towards you. Don’t exert too much force; the brake might get stuck. To release the handbrake, push the handle away from you whilst pressing the black button.

• Switching car lights on and off

The lights are switched on by turning the lever (at the right side of the steering wheel) two strokes. On the lever, the letter “R” indicates that the regular lights are on. By pulling the lever towards you, the beam lights are switched on. After parking the Duck, please make sure you switch off the lights (shutting down the engine doesn’t kill the lights, but you will hear a weak alarm sound).

• Radio

The Duck dound system is equipped with a radio faceplate. The faceplate should always be removed and taken with you if you leave the car. This is done by pushing on the black button on the right bottom side of the faceplate. The sound system is perfect for CDs or your MP3 player / iPod.  FM radio reception is however poor.

• Opening and closing the windows

The windows in the front doors can be opened by pushing on the black clip at the inside of the bottom of the window which releases it. You can push the window all the way out and then up and secure it to the outside of the car by pushing it into the black button located at the top back-back side of the top window (you must pull a small lever attached to the button backwards in order to secure the window in the button).

To release and close the window, push the small lever forward, and let the window fall back into the black clip and secure itself.

• Wipers

The windscreen wipers are turned on by the button on the right side of the small dashboard with the wipers sign on it. They are turned off by pressing the button again.

• Gear stick

The gear stick of a Duck sits at the right of the steering wheel.! Important Note: The reverse gear is left forward (move the stick counter-clockwise and push away from you). The first gear is left backward (move the stick counter-clockwise and pull it towards you). Second gear is centre forward, third gear is centre backward, and fourth gear is right forward. On the dashboard there is a picture indicating the location of the gears.

• Steering lock

Because of our theft insurance policy,  the steering lock must always be attached when leaving the car behind.

One end of the lock is hooked on to the clutch pedal, and the other end attached to the steering wheel and locked down. Make sure the lock is closed tightly so that it cannot be removed without using the key.

• Refueling

The duck can take up to 25 liters of petrol. The fuel tank has a relatively small opening, which  means you have to be careful otherwise fuel will spill over when filling her up. Make sure you squeeze the fuel handle gently, and stop in time.

The fuel cap is opened by pushing the cap down and turning it clockwise; it will then pop open. The cap is closed by firmly pushing the cap down, turning it counter-clockwise, and then release it.

• Horn

You can honk by pressing the lever that operates the lights.
