The Burton is the product of the brothers Dimitri and Iwan Gobel. Even as kids, they turned parts of the junk yard into moving vehicles. These two brothers, who originate from a artistic family, developed the design of a burton from their artistic passion. 

Their love for the Citroën 2CV began to grow in their student years. Soon a 2CV was changed into a pick-up or a Lomax. With their passion for car design and technology the brothers Dimitri and Iwan Göbel established their company in 1993; first as Duck Hunt, but in 2000 the company was renamed to Burton Car Company. Over the years, hundreds of Lomaxes and pick-ups were sold. In March 1999 the brothers opened one of the biggest 2CV shops in the Netherlands. In 2001 the company had grown into one of the best and most successful 2CV shops in the world. The company includes an online shop, a workshop, a special parts department, an overhauling department, and a showroom.

The final idea of the Burton originated from dissatisfaction with quality of the Lomax. In 1998 Dimitri started the creative process that had the codename “Hunter”. Dimitri worked in his atelier in Laag- Soeren for more than a year. A couple of concepts/ sketches, 160 kg of filler and 15000 km of grating later, the final shape of the Burton was born. The design is reminiscent of the old Alpha Romeo, Delahaye, Jaguar, Bugatti, and Morgan, yet the result is completely new and is admired by young and old.

The first body came out of the mold on the ninth of February, 2000 the final name “Burton” was presented. May 2000 saw the official introduction of the Burton. On new year’s eve of  2000 the Burton already counted 89 orders, and this without any advertisement budget. Nowadays, more than a 1000 Burtons have been produced, and Burton Car Company is the largest sport scar manufacturer in the Netherlands. This cool cruiser offers a driving behaviour quite different from a 2CV: it has become a real sports car!
